I had coffee with a friend the other day (I won’t say his name, but it’s Cade) and he was showing me all kinds of tricks for my Mac that I never even thought about. I felt…dumb. Caffeinated and happy, but dumb. I decided to look up even more hacks and I found these! Hope you can use them!
Paste text without formatting (like in an email, which is SO annoying) – Command + Shift + V
Typing a word like resumè and it looks like resume? Just hold down the letter that you need a special character for and a menu will pop up. Like this:
To use the emoji keyboard, use command + control + space.
Command + Delete will delete a file so you don’t have to put it in the trash can.
To delete the character in front of you, use fn + delete. The fn key is the bottom left key on your keyboard. To delete the last word you typed, use option + delete.
If you use different audio output sources, you can hit the volume icon + option to go back and forth.
Also for volume (or brightness), hold down the shift + option keys, and it will adjust in smaller increments. You’ll be able to get it just right.
Spotlight can be used as a calculator.
Sometimes I’ll have several Finder windows open and it’s annoying to switch back and forth. You can merge these windows – just go to Window – Merge All Windows. Never. Even. Realized.
Need to get to your desktop quickly? Okay…put your thumb and three fingers on the trackpad. Move your fingers slowly away from your thumb. That’s it. Just reverse this to bring it right back.
You can make each of the four corners of your screen do something when you scroll to that area. Type in “hot corners” in the spotlight search. From here, go to “Desktop and Screen Saver” and then click “Hot Corners” at the bottom.
Select a corner and a menu will pop up. Choose your action for each corner, and you’re done.
That’s just a few! Send me any more you have!
